There are more ways to rent a Mac in 2026 than ever, and they are not the same product wearing different prices. Some rent you a whole machine for a month. Some bill by the hour but charge a full day first. Some only run the YAML you commit. A few are built for an AI agent that needs a Mac for twenty minutes and then never again.

This guide sorts them by what you actually rent and what you actually pay for a short job. Prices are the public list prices we could verify in September 2026. Check each vendor before you buy, because this market moves quickly.

The one question that sorts the whole market: how many hours a week is the Mac busy? If the answer is “most of them,” rent a dedicated machine. If it is “a few,” anything with a monthly or daily minimum is mostly charging you for idle time.

The four kinds of cloud Mac

1. Dedicated monthly Macs

A physical Mac mini that is yours for the month: RentAMac, Macly, MacinCloud's dedicated plans, MacStadium and many smaller hosts. You get admin access, persistent files and usually a remote desktop. Prices cluster around $50 to $130 a month for an M4 mini. Availability is the catch this year: at the time of writing, both RentAMac and Macly show individual orders as sold out or waitlisted.

2. Hourly bare metal with a daily minimum

AWS EC2 Mac and Scaleway rent real Mac hardware by the hour, but both charge a minimum of 24 hours per allocation. An hour of work costs a day of machine. See what hourly really means for the arithmetic.

3. CI minutes

GitHub Actions, Codemagic and Bitrise CI run macOS jobs by the minute. They are excellent at replaying the same steps on every push. They are awkward when you need to explore, because every experiment is a commit and a wait.

4. Sessions built for agents

The newest category: a Mac VM that an agent starts, drives through an API or MCP, and throws away. Bitrise opened Remote Dev Environments in beta in June 2026, Cua is signing up large computer-use fleets, use.computer sells reserved macOS sandboxes, and NoMac sells weekly hours billed by the second. We cover these in detail in cloud Macs for AI agents.

The comparison table

Two columns matter more than the headline price. Minimum decides what a short task costs. Admin decides whether you can install Homebrew, CocoaPods, a new Ruby or an extra simulator runtime, which most real iOS projects need at some point.

How to choose in one minute

  • ·You want a desktop and click around in Xcode. A dedicated monthly Mac or MacinCloud. Agent-first services are headless.
  • ·The Mac runs all day, every day. A dedicated Mac mini. At full utilisation nothing beats owning the whole machine.
  • ·You need the same steps on every push. CI. Keep it on GitHub Actions, Codemagic or Bitrise.
  • ·Your infrastructure lives in AWS. EC2 Mac, and accept the 24-hour minimum as the price of the VPC.
  • ·Your team is on Bitrise and wants dev machines to match CI. Bitrise Remote Dev Environments.
  • ·An agent needs a Mac for a build, a test run or a simulator screenshot, a few times a week. A per-second session. That is the case NoMac is built for.

What NoMac is, and what it is not

NoMac starts a fresh macOS VM on Apple silicon in about a minute, with Xcode, the iOS SDK, a simulator runtime, Node, Python, Ruby with CocoaPods, a JDK and Flutter installed. You get root. Your agent reaches it over MCP, the CLI, a REST API or plain SSH. The clock runs only while the Mac is ready, by the second after a one-minute minimum, and stopping deletes the VM and everything on it.

It is not a remote desktop, it does not keep your files between sessions, and a session is a VM rather than a whole Mac mini, so heavy builds run faster on dedicated hardware. Plans are $9.99 a month for 5 hours every week or $29.99 for 25, one session at a time.
